Aqua-Terra Park

Formerly the site of the Aqua-Terra Sportsman’s Club and Innsbruck USA ski area, this undeveloped Broome County Park located in the Town of Binghamton consists of 466 acres of bountiful wildlife and natural settings. Informal trails can be found on both sides of Maxian Road, including a trail around the shore of Agua Terra Pond on the north side of Maxian Road, while steep trails which follow the former ski slopes are found on the other side of the road. From Binghamton, follow Pennsylvania Avenue south for 4.6 miles to Maxian Road. Turn right on Maxian Road and go 1.1 miles to Aqua-Terra Park.

Arnold Park Nature/Exercise Trail

Arnold Park has picnic tables, sports fields, and a short Nature / Exercise trail. Take NY Route 26 South off of Route 434 (Vestal Parkway). After one mile you come to Pierce Hill Road and a flashing yellow light. There you will see signs directing you to Arnold Park, owned and managed by the Town of Vestal.

Barlow Park / Choconut Creek Flood Wall

This is a level walk with a view of a hill and woods seen across the creek. From the Four Corners area, take Main Street 0.5 miles, on your right is Barlow Park, a Town of Vestal park with picnic pavilion and playground equipment. Follow the wood fence by the parking lot to the corner of the rear fence. You will find a short decline connecting to a dirt trail. Go right on this trail a short distance to the start of the floodwall. The floodwall ends after a 20-minute walk at the bridge on Front St. by Town Hall.

Binghamton University Nature Preserve

This nature preserve encompasses 182 acres of land which includes a 20 acre wetland. From NY Route 434 near the University, take Murray Hill Road to the South. Turn right onto Washington Street, make a left onto Lehigh Avenue and continue to dead end. Alternatively, on-campus parking is free on weekends (use Lot M).

Chugnut River Walk

This paved path starts under the McKinley Ave Bridge beside the Susquehanna River and follows the flood wall west for 0.7 miles before rising to the levee at Bridge Street. The West entrance is off of River Terrace Road and the East entrance is in the Village of Endicott Park accessed via Riverview Drive.

Broome County’s Hawkins Pond Nature Area offers approximately 4 miles of hiking and cross-country ski trails, with additional trails found in the State Forest on the other side of McAlister Road. Take NY Rte 17 to Windsor Exit (NY Route 79). Turn right on NY Route 79 and go approximately 3.5 miles to Edson Road. Turn right onto Edson Rd. and go 2 miles to Scouten Hill Road. IBM Glen

The IBM Glen property, once part of the former IBM Country Club, is now owned and managed by the Waterman Conservation Center of Apalachin, NY. The Glen comprises over 200 acres in the Town of Union with several miles of marked trails using 3-inch diameter plastic blue, red and yellow markers placed on trees 5 to 7 feet above the ground. From NY Rte 17 West or East take Exit 70 North, turn left at light. Continue on Harry L. Drive West which becomes Watson Blvd. Turn right onto Country Club Road, and near the top of the hill turn right onto Robinson Hill Road. Look for the entrance to the Glen on the right hand side of the road.

This Broome County park located in Harpursville on Colesville Road features a 53-acre lake as well as self-guided nature trails, including a 1.5 mile loop around the scenic lake. From Binghamton, take NY Rte 17 East / I-81 South to Exit 3 (Industrial Park Exit). At bottom of ramp, turn left at the light onto Colesville Road. Follow Colesville Road 6 miles. Entrance will be on your right.

Port Dickinson Community Park

This community park is found on the eastern shore of the Chenango River where the I-88 bridge crosses over the river. A level three quarter mile walking trail along the perimeter of the park has been built, complete with exercise stations. The park is located in upper Port Dickinson, just north of the Municipal Hall, with one entrance/exit on Chenango Street.

Tracy Creek State Forest

Tracy Creek State Forest covers 512 acres in the town of Vestal in Broome County and the town of Owego in Tioga County, along the NY/Pa border. Although no formal trails exist on the forest, access through the woods is good due to extensive trails created by firewood cutters and these areas are used for hiking, skiing, horseback riding and mountain biking. From Vestal, go south from Ross Corners along Tracy Creek Road for about three miles, Tracy Creek Road then turns into Collins Road which runs through the forest before entering Pennsylvania.

Whitney Point Community and Lake Walkway/Bikeway

The trail is 2.0 miles long and goes from Broome County’s Dorchester Park around the southern shore of the Whitney Point Lake to Keibel Road in Whitney Point. The Whitney Point Lake was built by the Army Corps of Engineers on the Otselic River to create a flood control lake 1200 acres in size and 4.5 miles long. Take I-81 North 15 miles from Binghamton to Exit 8, Whitney Point. Follow NY Route 26 North through the town intersection and east across the river. At the top of the hill turn left at the dam access road.

This Town of Chenango park consists of 182 acres and approximately 3.5 miles of hiking trails. A very scenic waterfall can be found along the Nature Trail overlooking Dorman Creek. Take Fuller Road off of US 11 (Upper Front Street), turn left after the underpass on Dorman Road, and follow signs.
