BLAST Presents, “Deathtrap” a thriller in two acts by Ira Levin.

Appearing at the  Cider Mill Stage, your hometown theater, the Bold Local Artists of the Southern Tier presents this thrilling comedy that is a comedic thriller.

The Tony Award nominated, “Deathtrap” has many plot twists and turns, and references itself as a play within a play. It also holds the record for the longest-running comedy-thriller on Broadway.

Sidney Bruhl, (Nick DeLucia) a writer of Broadway thrillers, hasn’t had a hit in two decades and is struggling to overcome this dry spell and severe writer’s block. Sidney’s wife Myra Bruhl (Jean Graham) is passionate about Sidney’s work and will do whatever it takes to manage his career and protect her husband’s reputation.

A possible break in Bruhl’s fortune occurs when he receives a script from Clifford Anderson (Ryan Canavan) one of his former writing students. This script has all the elements of a Broadway smash and Bruhl wants to get his hands on it.

Sidney devises a plan to bring Clifford to his house and with Myra’s help concocts a scheme to offer a writing collaboration. During the meeting something so unexpected occurs that the Bruhl’s neighbor, psychic Helga Ten Dorp, (Amy Hathaway Gilbert) comes knocking on the door, due to the overwhelmingly strong and unsettling vibes that call her to investigate. Even Sidney’s lawyer and amateur playwright Porter Milgram (Mark Durkee) comes calling when changes to the Bruhl’s finances and living arrangements occur.

“Deathtrap” provides twists and turns of clever deceit and is chock full of hilarious and sudden shocks and scares. Audiences will be on the edge of their seats until the end of this show.
