Russian National Ballet: Giselle
March 27 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
The world-renowned Russian National Ballet was founded in Moscow during the transitional period of Perestroika in the late 1980s, when the great dancers and choreographers of the Soviet Union were exercising their newfound creative freedom by starting new companies that merged classical Russian ballet with modern dance developments from around the world. Led by legendary Bolshoi principal dancer Elena Radchenko since 1994, the company upholds the grand national tradition of ballet while enlightening, inspiring, and entertaining audiences of all ages.
Giselle tells the story of a young peasant girl who dies of a broken heart after discovering her lover lied about his identity and is engaged to another woman. A group of vengeful spirits – called the Wilis – target the man for death, but the protagonist’s love and understanding from beyond the grave ultimately saves his life.
