BLAST: Bold Local Artists of the Southern Tier is pleased to present tick, tick…BOOM!, the intimate, autobiographical pop-rock musical from Jonathan Larson—the creator of RENT—at the Cider Mill Stage from March 3-12, 2023.
tick, tick…BOOM! tells the story of Jon (Ryan Canavan), a struggling composer whose life seems to be going nowhere. On the precipice of his 30th birthday and still waiting tables for a living, Jon is desperately afraid that he may never make it to Broadway. The pressure to break out or give up only grows stronger as his girlfriend, Susan (Jessica Kennis), announces that she wants to move out of the city and his best friend, Michael (Mark Durkee), quits acting and finds financial success as a Madison Avenue advertising executive. As time ticks by, Jon wonders if his friends may be right, and it’s time for him to throw in the towel.
Created by Larson as a deeply personal peek into the life of an artist, tick, tick… BOOM! follows one man’s journey to define success on his own terms. Under the stage direction of Rob Egan and musical direction of Sonny Dewitt. Costume design by Shannon DeAngelo, light design by Gabrielle Button, and sound design by Michael Kane. Set in 1990 and scored by the music that redefined a genre, tick, tick…BOOM! cracks open the ticking-time-bomb world of creating theater to celebrate the power of finding your voice and holding on to a dream.
BLAST presents tick, tick…BOOM! Fridays and Saturdays, March 3-4 and 10-11 at 7:30pm as well as on Sundays, March 5 and 12 at 2:30pm. Six performances only at the Cider Mill Stage, Your Hometown Theater, 2 Nanticoke Ave, Endicott, NY. All tickets are $27 and can be purchased at cidermillstage.com or by calling the box office at (607) 321-9630 to reserve your seats.
