Henry Purcell based his first opera on the story of Dido, queen of Carthage, and the prince of Troy, Aeneas. Considered the first masterpiece of English opera, the opera was first performed in 1689.  With a magnificent final lament, scenes of sorcery and spirits, sailors tell the tale of the love and abandonment of Dido by Aeneas. Conducted by David Moody (Juilliard School of Performing Arts faculty) and directed by Tommy Iafrate (Binghamton University Department of Theatre faculty).

University Wind Symphony: “Sousa and his Band”

This program is based on repertoire performed 100 years ago by “John Philip Sousa and His Band” during their 1919-1920 tour of the US and Canada. In fact, most of the pieces were actually performed by when Sousa’s band appeared in nearby communities on June 17, 1919 – at both the Tioga Theatre in Owego and the Lyceum Theatre in Ithaca.
