The John J. McKenna IV Memorial 5K is an annual 5K run/walk held in the city of Binghamton, NY. John was an active duty United States Marine when he was killed in action in Fallujah, Iraq, on August 16, 2006. Hosted by the Binghamton Rowing Club, the race honors John, a former United States Marine, New York State Trooper, Binghamton Rowing Captain, and Binghamton University Alum, helping to preserve his legacy within the Binghamton community. The student-led 5K has been hosted every year since 2007, currently entering into its eighteenth year. A testament to the Binghamton community, hundreds and thousands of people have come out in rain, snow, or shine, to run and walk in John’s honor and memory.
