OurSpace is revitalizing a 4 acre parcel of the City of Binghamton’s Recreation Park with a plan that is designed to appeal to individuals of all ages, abilities and needs, from a child with Downs Syndrome, to a war veteran looking for a quiet space, from a family with three young children to an elderly couple.
A flowing smooth surface pathway welcomes visitors of all abilities throughout the park’s many delights. The ramps and playground equipment are perfect for all generations to explore. This multi-generational playground expands the concept of play to beyond the boundaries of ability and age. Highlighting the project is an accessible playground that captures the local architecture and history. From the famous “Link Trainer” to the Lackawanna Train Station, the 5-12 playground is fully accessible at all levels. The toddler playground invites the imagination and travel with a locomotive and canal boat feature. Toddler swings also include a “Generations” swing where adults can swing with their children. The playground also features a fully accessible Liberty Swing, accessible merry go round, beautiful instruments, and a unique natural play area with a rock climbing wall and slide. The play doesn’t end on the playground, this 16,000 square foot project includes an accessible sensory garden with raised flower beds, seating, game tables, an accessible tree house and a small amphitheater. OurSpace is included in the historic 24 acre Recreation Park in Binghamton.
